Walking Without Water
Lack of good planning could lead to dangerous situations.

Saida was never slugabed. Every day she would go for long walks, and she was never tired. If you saw her from far, you would recognize her very easily. She was a slim woman and a fast walker.

One Sunday morning, while she was walking and reading stories on her cell phone, she was very thirsty. Her tongue had no saliva, and her throat was very dry. Worst yet, she had no bottle of water on her to ease the thirst. Moreover, where she was, no water tap was to be found from which she could drink. Saida was fatigued, and her face turned pale and dry. She was literally swallowing up air.

Suddenly, she spotted a grocery store owner opening his business door in the early morning, but he was a little bit far from her. Saida barely made it to his location, making several stops along the way. Once she was there, she intended to buy a bottle of water from the grocery store but had no money on her. She looked into the owner’s eyes, whose face was not washed yet and whose eyes were half open

This is a story that took place in the city of Mohammedia in 1993. At that time, the city started to welcome more and more new residents. Routes and bridges were built as the population of the city grew rapidly. Among the established residents were several foreigners, just like Frankassa, who owned several villas and had privileges from the City. Karim tried to call the emergency phone line, but it wasn’t for free in Morocco

It was a rainy Friday in the afternoon; Karima felt a little bit queasy. She sat on the kitchen chair and leaned forward, her elbows on her thighs and her chin cupped in her hands. Her husband, Karim, filled a cup of cold water from the sink and gave it to her with a painkiller. There was a tremor in the hands, and the cup clicked against her teeth. Suddenly, she felt a severe pain in her stomach and loudly screamed before she heavily fell on the floor. Her husband, in a panic situation, rummaged inside the pocket of his jacket searching for his cell phone, trying to call an ambulance. He heard a woman’s voice on the other line and thought somebody was answering his phone call so quickly. He caught his breath and said, “Ambulance! Ambulance, please!” Suddenly the line died on him.
